Laying between the Puget Sound waters that are salty and Lake Washington is the city of Seattle.The Olympics Mountain lies beyond these waters at the west side, and at the east part is the Cascades Mountain. Seattle has its foundation on the hills while waters surround it; hence the climate is mild marine, and the vegetation is prolific in the area. The place also has several natural resources.
The indigenous land where the city got built was a territory of the people from the coast who was Salish, and they were from the tribes of Duwamish and Suquamish. They settled at the place for many years before the white and European settlers developed social and trade networks. They also had extensive knowledge about the seas and the land of Seattle; hence they lived there to date.
In 1851 when the white settlers had reached Seattle, they established this townsite and even named it New York. They added to the name s Chinook jargon word, which changed it to New York-Alki. After a while, they relocated to Elliot Bay, currently known as the District of Pioneer Square. The area had a harbor that was protected by the deep waters. Soon afterward, the following village was given the name Seattle, a word after Sealth, the leader of the Duwamish Indians.
Henry Yeslerbuilt a mill in 1853 at Mill Street, which became the significant economic support for the town. Most of the produce from the mill was taken to San Francisco and other cities found in the region of Puget Sound.
In 1865 and 67, there was an attempt to incorporate the town, but it failed. Later on, in 1869 December, the incorporation took place, and Seattle grew to have over two thousand people living there. The Territorial legislature ensured the attempt was a success.
The western terminus of the TranscontinentalRailroad would pass near Seattle in the 1870s, as announced by the Northern Pacific Railway Company. The location would be at Tacoma, which was in the South of Seattle and only forty miles away.Seattlestrived to make sure that this connection would pass at the place after it's completion that happened in 1883. In the 1880s, the area experienced high growth of its population. The significant industries in the area were that of Coal and Lumber. Later on, the town's economy continued growing through shipbuilding, wholesale trades, fishing, and shipping.
In 1889, Seattle experienced an estimated rise of its resident by a thousand each month. However, a fire happened, which caused a slowdown of the rapid growth in 1889. The buildings found at the central business district of Seattle, on one hundred and sixteen acres of land, where all levels down.
In the 1890s, another Transcontinental Railroad called the Great Northern passed in the area, but it didn't bring much change of prosperity. Depression occurred Nationwide, which also affected Seattle, but in 1897, there was gold, which was discovered near Klondike River. It was in the Territory of Yukon, Canada, and Alaska. The following contributed to making Seattle prosper once again.
Seattle took advantage of the nearness to the River Klondike; hence it built shipping lines that were premiered at the point that outfits prospectors. The following link grew strong enough to make Alaska become considered as being a personal property for the city of Seattle and its residents.
The population of Seattle grew as it became diversified over the 19th and 20th centuries. The place received the Scandinavian who came to the ace to work in lumbering and fishing industries. The African Americans also came as they worked as Porter's of the railroad and waiters while the Japanese operated trucks, which were hotels and gardens. The city has many significant communities that include the Chinese, Jews, Italians, and Filipinos. Several Asian groups of different ethnicities are also found at the places that have made it primarily developed.
Currently, Seattle has several strengths as a city. It proudly exhibits several places of art and culture. There are many theatres of live performancesfrom professionals and others used for college sports. The population continues to grow as there has been evidence of various corporate businesses in the area. Some of the companies include; Amazon, Starbucks, Alaska Airlines, and many others.
