From Sacramento County, CA, Citrus Heights has grown to become a very well-known city. The 2010 census showed that the town has a population of 83,301. The early settlements in the West started between 1844 up to 1861. In California, when the Spanish had taken control of the region, limited settlement activities were going on, which were found at El Camino Real narrow strips at the coast that were isolated from civilization. John Augustus Sutter and Ranch of Del San Juan were included in one of the posts.
In 1848 February, the Guadalupe Hidalgo treaty was signed that opened up California's way to become an official state. Several townships were established that were built as gold had been discovered in the area. The population of the place also continued growing.
In 1850 is when there was an abrupt end of the isolated central township. At the start of early spring till the end of fall, a heavy freight wagon was traversed to Auburn. It led to many of the stations being built on the route.
In 1862, there was a schoolhouse called the conviction of Thomas constructed in the area. It housed several kids; hence it made the place become a Citrus Heights district. It became an educational, civic, social, and religious center for the whole community after its construction.
In 1864, the local farmers of Citrus Height got approval from Old Auburn Road to access the east side of the district, which was called Greenback Lane.
Citrus Heights got its first settlers between the 1860s and 70s. The first person to settle was Cornelius Donahue, who established a ranch and slowly expanded to have houses, the Sunrise Mall, and the Birdcage shopping centre.
During the early 1990s, the Great Depression occurred in the area, but Citrus Heights stopped the activities of farming at the place during the freeze of winter. The Citrus Heights Water Tank Association, provided water for irrigation, and also the North Fork Ditch Company distributed the water, which created a transformation in the framed grains of the community.
In 1912, Citrus Heights continued to get impetus urbanization that included Highway 40 (currently Interstate 80) and the highway system. The origin of Highway 40 comes from San Francisco. Its route led towards the northeast part of San Francisco. In early 1914, the Golden Eagle-Barker Stage Bus services were offered by the Golden Eagle-Barker Stage bus services headed to Sacramento from Roseville and via Citrus Heights.
Business opportunities grew in Citrus Heights; hence there was an improvement seen in the population of both residents and the visitors who came to seek some options in the area. Also, the community at the Citrus Heights practiced Road Day activities, which were annually celebrated today. It includes a celebration where families can provide help in patching up holes found in the country roads, plant trees, and clean drainages and ditches.
The advisory council of planning in the community of Citrus Heights got updated in 1974. It provided a plan to the community, which catered for all the residents found in the place. Shopping malls started being constructed between 1979 and 1993 when Citrus Heights observed having many shops and businesses. The 1980s witnessed retail growth in the center, including the Sunrise and Greenback corridors that were commercially used office buildings and apartment houses.
In 1994, a year later, after the agreement was made, several efforts were put in place to raise funds meant to pay for the Environmental and EIR Impact Report, which would gain momentum. In 1997, after twelve years of battling with Sacramento County, the residents voted, and Citrus Heights was officially made a city.
Citrus Heights might portray a small feel, but it has a large population and isn't quiet. Several historical and other current festivals are practiced today, and they include Berryfest, Fair Oaks Chicken Festival, and the Taste World Festival. One can also visit famous, exciting places like Citrus Heights Tempo Park, Citrus Heights Stones Gambling Hall, Roseville Golfland and Splash, the Citrus Heights sunrise mall, etc.
Currently, Citrus Heights corporate status has grown to contribute to the U.S. Economy, and the population has grown massively because of the visitors and residents who can be found in the place.
